Some of you remember a couple of weeks ago I got up one morning with the intention of winterizing my 50 hp Honda outboard. It was in a heated garage, so, there wasn't any hurry. It wouldn't start, wouldn't even fire. What in the devil could be wrong? Well,,,,,, I remember monkeying with the kill switch and disconnecting it. Then the gauges didn't work and I remember connecting them up so they worked. But, did I start it after I got the gauges hooked up. Couldn't remember that. So, I asked for ideas from the Fishing Forum, and of course, I got a lot of help from you guys, Barnacles, fishyaker, and Whitey in particular, but there were others that had some good ideas. I believe it was Whitey that said something to the effect that if you have gas, spark, and compression, you have an engine. I believe my dad, Thirsty, the bootlegger, used to tell me that but I never paid any attention to him. So, with that in mind, I replaced the spark plugs, the fuel filter, and the bulb in which to pump the fuel from the tank to the engine, and of course the oil in the lower unit and the crankcase, but that wouldn't have anything to do with starting it. O.K., pump her up, let's see what she does. Nothing, not even a fire. Go in and have beer time, it will be there tomorrow. Tomorrow came and went, I couldn't, force myself to work on it, I had to give it some heavy thought, and more heavy thought. Finally, I decided that it must be in the ignition and the kill switch, tear that puppy apart, put it back together, crank it up, nothing, not even a fire. Beer time. Checked the fuel filler bulb, no leaks there, checked the connection between the bulb and where it connects to the engine, no leaks there, checked the fuel filter, a leak!!!!! Tighten up the hose clamp, pump it up, give it a choke, and PURRRRRRR, runs like a top. Somebody on the Forum said just keep trying to start it fly. and, that is what I did. Thank you guys for this wonderful Christmas present. I certainly appreciate all of the help you gave me.
