My Christmas present to myself.

Some of you wanted to see the rod I built for myself and the reel that I put on it. The reel is a Penn Battle III, 3000. I like Penns, not as good as Shimano's but about 1/2 of the price. and at my age, it will probably outlive me. The rod I built is a MHX, 2 pc., 9'0", 6 - 12 # line, 6 - 12 # lure wt., I put 13 LZR guides plus the tip-top. Guides on a rod are like ball bearings, they make everything work better. Hopefully, the pictures will come through. I intend to use the rod for in-shore fishing down in South Padre Island.

Didn’t see the rod but I can envision it in my feeble mind. Merry Christmas Fly.

Sounds like a nice set up flyguy! By your description...you definitely put some forethought into the project and trimmings! It is always exciting to catch the "first fish" on a new rod! What species will it be....?

Hopefully, a 40" bull red will be fine. or even a 35" gator would do. It is Christmas time.

I'll have to check out those guides. I usually use American Tackle guides, Fuji when I can't get to my supplier. I've been running braid through one rod for 20 years and there's still not a mark in my Amtaks, and they're about a third the cost of Fuji.
