Too much time to think ...

As I sit here with plenty of free time, contemplating how to keep my Social Security checks coming and whether I'm facing prostate surgery, it occurs to me that having too much time to think, can be a really bad thing.

I should be working today and tomorrow but find myself sitting around the house -- thinking, worrying, stressing. Trying to take a day at a time.

I know many of you have dealt with a lot crap in your lives. Much of it you did little or nothing to cause.

Any tips on how to keep myself together mentally during all of this stuff? Thanks. Btw, I'm not a real religious person.

G,all I can tell you is take one day at a time. Doesn’t do any good to dwell on it I wish there was something I could do to help. Hopefully the new year will bring better things for you but don’t forget,we are all here to do what we can for you

Good Mornin', GMan. I don't know how much you have been told by the doctors in the ER, or what they did to you, or what your symptoms were/are. But, being in your field, I'm sure you have seen many people that are in a similar situation as you are and the prostate is not something to mess around with. I have had prostate cancer that metastasized into the blader. Not the best situation, but, I'm still kicking and I do not have bag at this time, and that is a good thing. I would tell you the symptoms and the shi1 that I went through, but it isn't something you want to talk about on Christmas Day. You hang in there, buddy, we have to room together at the meet and greet, ya know. Is it o.k. if I pray for you, oh, never mind, I'm going to anyway. Now, no drinking beer during the Packer game.

Thnx Fly. I'm staying away from my CC while on this antibiotic. Well, maybe one weak one on Christmas. I'm glad you got through yours okay. How is Marion feeling these days? Is she still being treated for the cancer?

Stay busy doing something, even if it's just sitting doing something simple with your hands. The more you concentrate on a small job that's tedious with your hands the less you think about your troubles. tying jigs or now wrapping a rod helps keep mind busy when I'm trying to keep my mind busy

merry Christmas G
two things I do when the mental clouds start to form. Do something you have been putting off forever because you don't feel like doing it. My favorite is "when was the last time you did something for the first time?"

Visiting with Bear might be something to add to your list of things for the day. Maybe try doing a lot of phone calls with your loved ones about good things from your past. I’ve found that stressing over things usually makes them worse. Think as positive as you can that all will turn out good. 😉

I'm praying for you whether you want it or not, Gman.
Do your best to keep your mind on other things, and remember that you have a LOT of people pulling for you!

Merry Christmas Greg and all. Good idea, talking to friends and family, focusing on others helps when you find yourself focusing too much on self. Taking up a new hobby works sometimes. I've gone though puzzles,
teaching myself knitting, paper folding, wood caving, macromae and jewelry making in times of stress. A friend taught himself crochet to quit smoking

I’ve been thru it. It’s no fun but you can prepare the best you can. Physically I made sure I was in pretty good shape by hitting the gym prior to surgery, working on my mid section a lot. Mentally you need to stay positive, don’t dwell on it. I stopped reading the numerous articles people kept sending me. Best of luck. Stay strong.

Hey G, hope you're feeling better.
Try to find something to keep you busy. Organize your tackle, clean your rods and reels, strip off your old line and replace it.
Wash your car, and wax it. Before you know it, Bear will be knocking on the door. Have a Merry Christmas buddy.

Thank Barnacles. Just for the record - I never said people couldn't/shouldn't pray. I just said I don't pray. If people believe that God has a "Divine Plan" for all of us, would we want him to change it because we pray for something? Anyway, thanks again for the support.
