Christmas Past

Everyone's gone and it's thirty minutes to Christmas Day. Kath's snuggled all sound in her bed. My evening went pretty well considering those three girls have a lot of animosity toward each other. Nice they could set it aside for a few hours and at least tolerate each other's company if not enjoy it. And four grandchildren. Hardly children. The twins are going to be 12 next month. And my two grandsons who were here are 25 and 26.
And now I'm being visited by the spirit of Christmas past. Waxing nostalgic about Christmases spent with my kids when they were little and me and my sister when we were just little kids. Long time ago. Pleasant memories. This is my first Christmas with my mom gone - she passed in May at 99. Would have been 100 on the 16th of this month. And my younger sister basically disowned me over that. I've no idea what she needed from me, but I guess I didn't provide it, whatever it was. We haven't spoken since. Too bad.
I am finishing my night cap and I will think on better times and dream of my big sis Betty and tinsel on our tree.

Feliz Navidad Mis Amigos

Here's to waking on a spectacular Christmas Morning for you! They say that time can be a "healer", but sometimes you wonder how long will it take. We have similar "estrangement" (based on how the world should operate) in places within our overall family that always makes me scratch my head and wonder "why"...no obvious reasons other than how different personalities can all of the sudden create distances between people.

I hope that someday your situation changes for the better...and I hope the same for ours!

Spirit27: Yes, I understand estrangement. My youngest daughter is in a snit, and refuses to have anything to do with my wife and me. She and her husband were going to adopt Jeremiah and it didn't work out. Another couple has taken him, it has worked out like a dream and they formally adopted him December 3rd. I have yet to learn her real reason. I suppose it will become clear eventually. Just SayIn .....RJS

It's sad to have a rift in the family. I was glad to hear that you were all able to get together without too much trouble. They say that time heals all, but sometimes you have to wonder. Merry Christmas, Spirit!

Spirit, I haven't had anything to do with either of my sisters after the h@[[ they put me through over Dad's estate. I also know too well the infighting of my daughters. Hopefully they can stay civil and nothing will blow up today. ๐Ÿคž

Your post sparked a few memories of mine as well. My mom passed in February this year - she was 86. Iโ€™m fortunate to still have all my siblings, and we all 5 still get along mostly. Glad your Christmas with family went well.

I have only one sibling, a brother. I'm lucky, we get along great and we're really close. I guess we must have gotten all of our fighting out of the way while we were kids.

Oh yeah, we FOUGHT back then!

Everyone at our Xmas get together got along today. The grumpy ones are not invited.

I told some of my close friends on here already today. We were told weโ€™re going to have another grandkid in 22. That was an excellent Xmas. I also got a huge Seal A Meal device that seals Tupperware type containers for marinading under vacuum. Pretty neat. I already tested it today. Separated a bunch of bacon into vac bags. Iโ€™m excited to hook large fish this next year and vacuum pack them.
