Kayak Fishing and Alligators

Hey guys, I currently am living in Northern Louisiana and have been chasing big fish in some of the lakes and bayous in the area. I just wanted to know if anyone has any experience or any tips for fishing alongside our scaly water neighbors, especially while using live bait (catfishing) and while fishing at night? Is it something I should pass on? I'd rather not end up dinner. Thank you!

in a boat... sure. kayak...not me. they are expert stealth predators in the dark. f
nite fishing on lavon lake in tx yrs ago, had a coleman lamp on the bow and kept seein a red lite bout 100yds in the distance. slowly moved in closer and turned out to be 2 red lites. made the hair on my neck stand up. if yer gonna be in a kayak in the dark better have a 360 BRIGHT lite and watch for those red eyes

If I were fishing at night in a kayak, I definitely would be armed if I fished in Louisana, why take a chance? Just Sayin...RJS

I went out night fishing in a kayak in Placentia, Belize. Had on a headlamp. Got nervous seeing all the pairs of eyes in my light. When my bait hit the water the eyes would submerge. I got a little spooked so came back in. The locals told me later the Saltys ( salt water crocs) get 5+ meters (16’)
Probably one of the few times in my life I didn’t hook up. My kayak was 11’.
Girlfriend with me tore me a new one for going out. So it goes.
