Plug Bait is a start-up artificial bait company based in Chatham, NJ. They held a raffle last January and I was notified by email that I was the Grand Prize Winner. A cash prize, some of their clothing apparel and a kit of Plug Bait for each month of the New Jersey Fluke season (May to September).

I thought: This is Great. I am an 81 year old Vietnam Veteran and prefer spending my time chasing Fluke in the summer.

At the end of June nothing arrived and I emailed them several times. Finally, in August I got a response stating "I will send it out Monday Scouts' Honor!!!"

Nothing ever arrived. Anglers' (and scouts) Beware of Plug Bait.

That sucks Major. I can understand a new business having trouble making ends meet in this Covid economy, but to make a second promise and then renege without any explanation? Says something about their character. Live and learn my friend. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours.

Thanks Major good to know. Might be that Nigerian family that is on the way here with my $ 15K from a foreign relative that passed last week. Presently they were in Arizona and will be here in a few days.

So said the email anyway.

Appreciate the heads up! Nothing can spoil an otherwise good day like a scammer! Kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth about folks that work within the shyster side of society!

OJ: The company is legit! They just Welshed on sending me the prizes they said I won. No entry fee or I would have reported them to the NJ Attorney General's Office. DK why they wouldn't send the prizes.

Another Vietnam Veteran gets crapped on. I’m so sorry Major. I can only imagine how disappointed you were. Welcome Home Sir! God Bless you.

I hope they get their act together and send the stuff as promised as good news travels fast, but bad news travels FASTER

Hopefully they’ll come through for you in time. We ordered reels, powerbait, rapalas, Trilene line etc. for the shop LAST September and just recently received them. Just received news from Berkeley that there’s going to be another shortage. Guys are buying up line and other terminal tackle like gangbusters in anticipation of the shortage.

Hmmm. I think I will add a lolly gagging visit to our local Sportsman's Warehouse tomorrow...there must be something I am in short supply of for next Spring! So far they seem to be keeping a good inventory, although I have noticed an interesting strategy on how they stock their mini wall pegs. They stick out a ways to get a nice 3D effect, but only hang a single lure or two on each peg to make the selections look bloated and full of stock. Probably a marketing ploy as well I suppose.

Shyster - derived from German
word 'scheisser' which translates
to 'DEFECATOR', which is why we
know they're full of sh*t !

The power of social media! At 1030 EST today, 20 DEC less than 18 hours after I posted my tale about Plug Bait Company the president of the company shows at my door! He has the money I won, hats and a hoodie and enough Plug Bait packages that will see me through several seasons! All apologies, very personable guy named Howard Ryan and of course he was quite chagrined. We parted with a warm handshake.

That's great Major. It's possible that he's on the Stage, or an associate is, and let him know. Glad you got your winnings.

I'll retract my reference to their character as well, although it may be a result of someone's feet being held to the fire.
