My name is Bill, my home town is in Marinette Wisconsin. We arrived at Seawind RV Resort in Riviera Texas about 3 weeks ago. NEVER EVER Fished Saltwater. I have been out to a couple of piers and beaches, caught a fee black drum, nothing big 12"-12.5" . any suggestion on location, time of day, bait, lures, etc.

Thank you in advance for your help.
Regards
Bill

Welcome to the Forum, PP. I love that area around the Peshtigo/Marinette area. I ran out of gas fishing salmon out in the Bay. We were catching so many salmon that I didn't pay any attention to the gas gauge untilI heard the motor go put, put, pooooo. No kicker, no trolling motor, just oars. It was in the early '70s. We got back to the State Park about midnight. The wives had called the cops, but we arrived before they got there. Anyway and anyhow, I have never fished the Riviera area but most of of So. TX. fishes the same way. Live shrimp is your go to bait. Many different rigs to use with them, YouTube it. All kinds of info. out there. Check with the locals, the locals will have the beach carts. Both on the piers and the beach. Check out the local bait shop, not the big box stores, they are worthless. Good luck.

FlyGuy is correct, Shrimp is the universal 'go-to' bait. If you cannot find live, use fresh dead shrimp. I suspect also shrimp tails on jigs will also work, just not as well.

If you can afford it, hire a local guide for 1/2 day. The cost will get you up the learning curve further, faster than any other way. Cold fronts will roll through but they will pass in a day or two and you will be back to warm weather fine for fishing. Be sure to post your pictures. Just Sayin...RJS

Remember to rinse all your equipment with fresh water when you finish each day. Salt is corrosive!

croakers are awesome bait as well if you can find them. haven't been down there in a bit, so I'm not sure of the availability of croakers.

Thanks, I have tried mullet, not croaker yet! I caught some croaker the first week I was here, but threw them back.
