Fly fishing: Knots

What knots do you guys tie your fly to your line? Also how do you decide how thin of tippet to use, I was using 6x because that’s the only thing these line shy trout would eat them sure enough broke that 6x on the hook set on the biggest brown I’ve ever seen (25+”). Basically knot recommendation and how to decide what size tippet to use, I should mention tippet material for a dry dropper

You might try a tippet ring if you continue to use 6x. A triple surgeon knot works well if you can upsize to 4x.

For tippet size a general rule of the thumb is to divide the size of the fly by 3 - so size 12 fly would take a 4X tippet.
