Welcome Nitro. What part of western NC are you in? A lot of great crappie and bass fishing probably very close to you. I'm in NE TN. I've had some luck with bass. Good info on this site. Feel free to ask questions and we love pics.
I live in Whittier, close to Cherokee, I've fished Fontana, chatuge, glenville but kinda bored with them , would like to try some different lakes.
Not sure how adventurous you are but we have plenty of great lakes about 2 1/2 hrs from you in NE TN. We have Douglas Lake(bass and crappie), Cherokee( a variety), Ft. Loudon, Tellico, the list goes on. Of course, you would have to buy a TN fishing license. You could also try Watauga Lake near Boone, NC. Not sure how far that is for you driving time.
Thanks good info, I'm not far from east TN and may venture over that way soon , I just recently retired so I'm looking for some new lakes to fish. What lures is best to start with in those lakes?

I use large and medium minnows. I've also had some luck with a chartreuse jig and a minnow attached. Some guys cast a variety of things for bass. Not sure if one works the best. You may want to wait until April or May. TVA really drops the water levels here in the winter.
O yeah I'm familiar with the dropping lake levels, may wait till spring when the levels are up and the fish are more active. But I'm interested in coming over and checking out the lakes there. Thanks for the info
there's a lot of rivers around them parts too...
