We are here for 4 months in Rockport TX hoping to catch spec trout and reds. I’m the only one fishing, no boat or kayak yet and there are canals where we are renting. Thanks

Welcome to the stage fse, if the canals are salt water reds and specs will be there. My sister had a house in Rockport on a canal that led to the big water and we used to catch a lot of them along with sheepshead, hardheads, even a flounder now and then. For specs I used swimming tail or mister twister grubs my favorite color was chartreuse. If you use shrimp anything can happen lol
Good luck and fish the lures slow. MirrOlure also good

Good mornin', fse, and welcome to the Forum. Good bank fishing off the S. side of the pike going from Aransas Pass to Port Aransas.

I suggest you Google the Texas Game and Fish Commission for their monthly fishing report. It will help you know where and what to fish with. Just Sayin...RJS
Don't find canals, find canal fishermen. When you see some walk up to them, tell them your new around here and that you would like to know about the fishing. Three or four hours later they will have pumped you full of more information than you will ever be able to use in one lifetime, but that's the way Texans are. I wouldn't be surprised if they won't have you scheduled for a trip within the next few days with some gear one of them was going to take to Goodwill one of these days. It's always the human element that counts. Welcome to the Forum, welcome to Texas we expect a photo of your fist catch any day now.
I was there in October at “the Reserve at St Charles Bay” and they had canals. We caught Red Fish, a black drum, catfish in the canals. We used live shrimp and croakers. Bought our bait at Sea Gun which is where many fishing guides buy bait. Check the Texas Wildlife fishing report for what is biting and which bait.
