I’ve mainly seen baitcasters used for lures on bass and the advantages are obvious but how about for baiting and waiting at the pier or lake is there any real reason for a baitcaster for this type of fishing? As far as I’ve seen it spinning reels can be used just fine with lures as well as bait are they more versatile in this regard?
Friend, when you only have one rig and cannot afford two or three, that is what you use! Until spinning came along, most fishermen used bait casting and were happy where ever they were fishing. Only the extra strong rigs were used offshore for 'monster' sized fish. Just Sayin...RJS
I happen to believe that a competent, experienced fisherman can do anything with either! So it boils down to personal preferences. Just Sayin...RJS
Absolutely RJ. Baitcasters are easier on my hands. Hold a spinning reel for extended period of time becomes very uncomfortable. I'm just glad I obtained alot of lite weight outfits before I retired 👍
I can skip with a spinning combo but I've never taken time to learn skipping with a bait caster. Maybe I'll start practicing.
Yeah, its much easier without having to deal with a baitcast reel revolving spool, dragging, and it's tendency to freewheel, and creating a possible backlash if your angle of attack is too acute. Forgot that .
