I'm trying to get more into fishing and l want some general knowledge. I've only caught catfish with baits and bobbers before.

I'm looking for a good easy to understand source for different knots/rigs and when to use them. I appreciate any info!

Your sporting goods store should have a water proof card or book showing you "how to" for different knots. What you need to do is practice, practice and more pratice until it is second nature to you. Good luck fishing.

Knowing how you feel about the ungrateful "GNUBIES" and seeing you post under FS Digest gives me a chuckle. I don't know whether to believe you or not. There probably is a "Fishing for Idiots" book out there but whether you are sincere or sarcastic about suggesting it seems humorous to me.

I hope you are enjoying your Holidays out there in Sunny Southern Ca. I also hope the New Year rings in with many wonderful Trout catching outings for you.

Blue Skies Spirit,

BD

A little of both I think. I misspoke. Meant to say fishing for dummies - that is an actual book. Came out all wrong. Hey, it was early and I hadn't had my coffee.
Thanks for the well wishes and right back atcha BD. But we've had enough of blue skies, could you please wish us some rain? Better yet, snow in the mountains! Lots and lots of snow.

I should write one called "for idiots".

Net knots is a pretty good online source as well as knots by gorg. Good animations of how to tie whatever you desire.

www.Pro-Knots.com is a great tool for learning fish knot tying. Remember that bad knots are a major cause for the loss of large fish. It does take time and practice to learn to tie the knots correctly but you will never regret learning how to do so.

I picked up PRACTICAL FISHING KNOTS -Mark Sosin and Lefty Kreh a few years back. Small paperback. Has been helpful.

You can find many knots on Youtube. Problem is there are too many, and often different approaches to the correct way to tie them. I do like the on-line Animated Knots or Net Knots mentioned above. My advice is to find a few you like and practice them until you're good at 'em. I tied approx. 50 or so fishing knots (at least). I use probably 5 or 6 with any regularity, and those are the ones I remember without having to look them up again.

I'm subbed to the following YT channel:
https://youtube.com/c/AnglingKnots which has a fairly comprehensive collection of fishing knots. It's animated so it's easier to follow than actual videos with the usual poor lighting and bad viewing angles.
