Well now that thanksgiving is over thought I could touch on something political. This year ‘s thanksgiving was thankfully less regulated than last year. Last year you couldn’t hardly find a big turkey since they were all butchered at a smaller size, which was most likely because we were all told to only celebrate with people living in our own house holds and a maximum of something like 6 people, and we were told to be good citizens and report any body in our neighborhood who was violating this order. But this year once again big turkey’s both gobble gobble and political kinds were to be found everywhere. We were once again told we could gather together and celebrate thanksgiving although they did have some guidelines. I know these most likely varied some from state to state but out here on the enlightened west cost, and the state of Washington to be specific, here is what thanksgiving would have looked like if one had followed all the guidelines.
1. All who were gathering for thanksgiving needed to wear masks at all times, although lowering the mask was allowed while eating as long as it was put back in place between bites. While not specifically stated out here it is understood that the mask should be worn in the car while traveling to and from the gathering
2. When arriving all gathers need to show proof of being fully v******ted before being allowed into the garage (will explain this next) and of course taking temperatures to make sure no one has a temperature would be encouraged as well. Anyone that is not fully v******ted or has a temperature are to be immediately sent home where they are to isolate and quarantine themselves.
3. All who pass the v******tion verification can now enter the garage to begiven a C***d rapid test. It was suggested that there might be ”hors d’oeuvres” for guest to snack on while waiting the results. And those who have a positive test will be escorted our and sent home and those with a negative test will be allowed to proceed to the back yard.
4. It was recommended that the thanksgiving meal and event be held outdoors in one’s back yard where there was plenty of air flow. Of course in Washington state Thanksgiving is usually very rainy and wet and this year was no exception but I am thinking this to was all part of the plan for protecting people from spreading C***d since the falling rain drops would assure that the thanksgiving celebration would be kept short and to the point even for those wearing their Cortex rain gear and Seattle Sombrero. After all how many servings of rain soaked mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie does one want to eat.

So my question is what guidelines did your state have for thanksgiving, and where you compliant? I have to admit I didn’t follow a single one of these guidelines. Hopefully no one was makeing a list who was naughty or nice for our next holiday

two books worth reading:
"A nation of sheep" by Judge Andrew Napolitano (a book about now)
" A nation of sheep" by William Lederer ( a book from 1962...the beginnings)

I was highly compliant! Wife said, have some more stuffing with gravy. I complied. Grandaughter said, have some ice cream with the cheesecake. I complied. I complied myself into overstuffed complancy. Not a mask to be seen.

Not here around Sacramento, but it's a big state so maybe somewhere? I try to avoid the news.

Low and slow? I've never tried it with a turkey. Tell me how you do it? Yeah I brined a 15 pound bird then split it down the back and cooked it for about 2 1/2 hours on 300. And I infected it with cajun butter (Tony Caccierre's?). Can't spell it. It came out pretty good - very moist.

Yes I was very compliant. We had zero restrictions, nobody is sick around (even if the media says there is). It was really easy to be compliant around our place. There’s no mandates or restrictions of any kind. Lewiston Idaho is separated from Clarkston Washington by a bridge over the Snake River. Not a big bridge either (like 200 feet long) no restrictions in Lewiston but once you cross that bridge, into Washington, it’s mandate after mandate after mandate and a couple of added restrictions for every mandate. Just like you said. You can go there but you need to have your entire body wrapped in some sort of sterile wrap. If you can show proof of being v******ted over there you can do a couple of things but not much. It’s like the whole city is shut down. All the folks from Washington go to Lewiston to shop so they can breath and Idaho doesn’t restrict them from coming. Where I live we see mostly Washington and Oregon plates now. They don’t live here they just come here to breath and get away from all the stupidity of their own place. Their words not mine.

Actually I don’t call it “b***hin and moanin”. It’s good to know where NOT to go any more and I appreciate the updates.

I do not brime but everything else you did in prep is very similar I actually remove the back bone section and save for soup then crack the brestbone to split it so it lays pretty flat, and inject it with different mixtures depending on the year this year I used a butter herb mix then place some cellery and onions on a raised cookie cooling rack on a liped cookie sheet and place the bird flat on that and cook at 225 at 20min a lb or untill the temp is 165 and like yours comes out very moist I thik this split brestbone method is the best I have tried and over the years I have tried a lot including deep fried, bag cooked, and others. and always enjoy the left overs as much if not more than the main meal. yesterday made turkey enchalatas
