I had 20 lb powerpro tied on my rod and it worked fine for several months. Recently it kept getting into wind knots and I had to cut off large parts of the line. I decided to respool my rod with some 10 lb omniflex I had laying around, sticker side up, kept tension on the whole time, left 1/8 of an inch on the end. First cast the entire thing turned into a birds nest, I don't even know how it happened. I thought that maybe I accidentally put too much line on it so I tried again with less line on the spool, still got completely ruined and tangled around the spool.

Crabman23452: It is almost impossible to accurately diagnose the problem without seeing it. However, I have a suspicion that part of your problem has to do with the line being a little stiff. You might try soaking the spool in hot water after you have loaded it. I don't believe the difference in strength would make any difference, but both might have some memory and cause the problem. I’m with RJS on this. Line memory is the likely culprit. Try ‘feathering the line with your index finger as the line pays out during the cast.
Try putting the line you are putting on your reel in a small bucket of water while spooling your reel. Make sure you put tension on the line. This might help.
