Does anyone have any tips and tricks for catching fish with soft plastics or really any lure?
I just started lure fishing and have watched plenty of torturials but I still can't seem to really catch anything.
I think I'm using a 2 inch curly tail grub and I'm just really trying to catch mangrove jack or bream

First and foremost you have to make sure the fish are there.
Caught abunchofbassonapinkworm hooked up in middle wacky style
Try slowing down. I had the same problem. Then one day, I cast a plastic worm out near an overhanging tree. Right then, my enlarged prostate and full bladder commanded my undivided attention. So, of course, I relieved my bladder pressure, which may have taken sixty seconds or so, zipped my fly, and directed my attention back to my rod. I turned the handle a round and had a two pound bass hooked. Many more times, I simply let it sit for a minute or so after casting before I move it any. Seems to work better than casting and immediately beginning my retrieve. I do remember watching several videos and reading several articles that all said when you cast your lure, wait until all the ripples have disappeared before beginning your retrieve. It is difficult at times to be patient. An older (than me) gentleman fishes a pond I fish. It is a difficult pond to catch fish. He casts his black sinko out and just simply leaves it. I think it's called dead sticking. He may wait thirty or more minutes. He catches fish.
