Well guys
This weekend I ventured deep into the Adirondack mountains to go to an auction. Initially it was for 2 specific items, of which I only got 1. However, when you see the photos, you'll see what happened. buried in the back a brand new NRA gun cleaning kit (never been opened) cost? $1.00.
total cost to drive 800 miles/2 nights in motel/2 dinners at expensive restaurants/and all auction items.
$984.00 (side note, 1 of those white boat rods normally cost $500+)
from the left: g Loomis, custom boat rods, 3 sage 1 Hardy fly rods, additional boat and surf rods all custom built.
striper lures and trout/salmon flies
more flies etc
Penn saltwater reels (for the boat rods)
All things considered, I believe you did very well.
WOW...WOW...and another WOW! Looks like you hit the motherlode of deals! That had to be a fun adventure! Glad that you found out about it and could participate in the shopping spree! Life is far too short not to take advantage of these types of opportunities! Have fun with all the "new" equipment in your inventory!

the guy sitting next to me (from Minnesota) bought almost every freshwater reel and every Heddon lure, with or without the box. he spent more than 8K . I helped him load his truck. found he has a huge site on Ebay where he sells all this stuff.

Very cool! He probably knows his market well and should profit handsomely once all that gear finds a new home.
It would probably amaze all of of us to know how much "legacy/vintage" tackle is out there just sitting around in dusty old boxes, closets and garages! It's nice to get it for fair prices too!
I just scooped up a couple of old Lazy Ike Snappertail lures today on Ebay from a guy in Kentucky. They look like a combination of a Hot-N-Tot, Rattle Trap and a Flatfish. I think they are solid plastic and they will sink at a steady rate...sort of like a "countdown" Rapala. For me it is not about collecting...but to use for fishing! I like putting old lures back in the water to see how they produce!

Looks like you made out well Rip, did you buy them to add to your arsenal, or to resell?

I went there to get "shirts" and 1 boat rod. the shirts were not the ones I was looking for (Nantucket tourney). as the auction progressed I watched lures I had as a kid for $2 sell for $350. Then I realized most of the bidders there were fresh water guys. so I waited it out. first bid 2 G Loomis rods (brand new) first guy went 10, I went 20 sold! price tags on rods...$250. All bids started at $10 so when you raised 5 fingers you jumped it to $50. OH CRAP now I have auction fever. 2 custom boat rods ($500 each) bid $40 SOLD!. this went on for the next 6 hours and all I had to do was look at the auctioneer, no arm or head movement so no one was sure who was bidding. Big scores...2 Sage fly rods, 1 scott g series, 4 penn senators, 1 Hardy flyrod, hundreds of trout and salmon flies from around the world! bought a bundle of 5 rods for $1, 4 were trash 1 new worth $200. So far I have pulled out what is going to my grandsons, two people are interested in the sage rods, the NRA gun cleaning case, the surf rods, and the Shimano spinning reels. I'm thinking of keeping the Scott as I called the company and gave them the serial #. they said that was made special and is the only 5 made in that series. So to answer your question I am keeping what I want and selling the rest.

Definitely a great deal, even without the shirts you went for. Sounds like many will benefit, and you'll wind up with some gear and your money back. A true Win -Win. Nice job.
