Wacky rig stick baits for lake trout.

Have any of you tried fishing wacky rigged stick baits for lake trout? Any success? If so do you just wait forever to let them freefall to the bottom, or do you weight them? If weighted, how do you rig them?

JB has been killing them in Montana, using Tubes. Look for his post "Montana :one more day "
Good luck!
I'm sorry Bapa, I see you're already aware of JB's post, about the tubes.

Yep. That is what got me to thinking about stick baits. I have to drive five hours for lake trout, so only get a few shots a year. That leaves little time for experimenting. I did get hooked up by a member on here with trolling for Lakers on Pend Oreille. Thanks to him we did not get the big zip. Unfortunately we haven't been over there sense. A side note: I am sitting here watching the final 4 minutes and 45 seconds of the Seahawks season.

Time is always a problem, especially on a long distance trip.
Sorry about your 'Hawks.

It was wishful thinking any way. They were done when all their runners ended up on the injured list watching. They also put Russel back in to soon. He is great, but not a god. On the positive side, if we can find the lakes and rivers under the standing rain water, we can fish on Sunday afternoons. I should be fishing chum salmon, but there are no designated river banks due to the flooding. There are news videos of salmon swimming across the roads. Time to tie flies. and paint lures.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do. It's amazing that you guys have too much water and California is turning to dust.

Again, I’m only targeting bass, but in the mix I started catching lake trout. A lot of lake trout. Big ones too. I throw the wacky rig but only with marginal success on bass. I do use a small nail weigh. I have yet to have a lake trout strike one. On those same days, I’ve used the tubes and caught those Lakers… but I don’t want to sound like a broken record, and I have no association with Hookup Baits. They dart more erratic left and right than any other tube bait I’ve seen. I use the smaller 1/4 oz in red or orange. They just catch fish
