I have a Lew’s Xfinity bait caster, and it casts amazing using fluro (my main) and mono, but it just never seems to work with braid, specifically spiderwire 30lb test. I usually use 10lb-14lb test for fluro, and not once had an issue. The braid seems to either get tangles and/or knotted up beyond the point of no return, sometimes its after 2 casts, most is a day out on the water. Is it not the right combo or is it a me thing? I’m pretty experienced and hauled in all sorts of fish without an issue, until i put in spiderwire braid
Thanks!

There’s your problem. Spider wire is not a good braid. The coating seems to care off of it and cause problems. Try a new brand
Spider wire has been a topic before n the results are the same. One in a thousand likes it's. To the rest it's junk. Most use power pro. Some use suffix. Others are to expensive for many.
All braid will take a little getting used to. The characteristics vary from brand to brand and it will handle (cast) much differently from mono or flouro. Many will recommend using only one rod/reel combo for braid. This helped me a lot. Settle on a decent line and fiddle around with the reel settings then leave them alone.

At one time, the beginning, it was the best. It is now the worst. So many to choose from, my choice is 'Power Pro'.
I bought some braid from a Chinese outlet just to try it. Less than $25.00 for 1000 meters . It's been on my rods for 4 seasons with no fuzzy business going on and it's colored white and easy to see. I sometimes use a Magic Marker to color a couple feet in clear water.

No more spider Wire for me either, use Power Pro now on most reels and some Spectra on a couple & that seems to be working fine also
I tried Spiderwire on a spinner and found it to be too stiff, the good thing was it was much easier to untangle than other brands. I have a pair of TLD 25s that I spooled with 65# and it's lasted for 4 years w/o loosing it's coating, I mostly use them for trolling mojo's an 9ers. I have trolled some offshore lures and have had no issues trolling but I would not use it on a casting rig, you need a softer line.
I wouldn't touch spiderwire, but I'm not a big braid fan either. I used to have it on all my reels. Now I only have it on one. Braid gets wind knots really bad. It also has a tendency to wrap around my rod tip when I give little twitches to my bait (I only fish artificials). Rocks will abraid and cut braid. And if you are going to use a mono or flourocarbon leader I suggest you tie a swivel in between the braid and your leader. Some around here will swear it's not a problem, but I have cut the knot right off a leader tied to braid when trying to set the hook and had enough rocks cut the line as I was retrieving a fish that I mostly just stopped using the stuff. Mono works fine and is more forgiving.

Wood I never heard of wind knots. I don't experience braid wrapping tip but have had trouble wrapping front hook on topwater baits like spooks. I use power pro n the Potomac n Susquehanna rivers are rocky but never a big problem. I know some places have some seriously sharp rocks. I get more Nick's in mono n floro. I did buy some off brand 4 strand. Don't think it's very durable. I have a long leader on it for finesse fishing Braid is hi-viz yellow so I can watch line.
