I agree...soft plastic, paddletails, DOA or Voodoo Shrimp work well.

Cajun popping cork if live shrimp are available. If you are using live croakers, then just use leader line with a circle hook. Put the hook through the tail of the croaker to keep it alive. No weight required.
1" to 4" Spot or Silverside or Peeler Crab. Lures- 1/8oz to 3/16oz Red Manns or similar jig with a white or red and white 2" to 4" curelytail or straight grub.
