What surf rod to match with heavy reel?

I bought a Penn SSV 6500 Bailess used. It's pretty heavy and doesn't balance well with my 9' rod.

Looking for suggestions for a 10-11' rod to match with the reel. My budget is $220 and don't want to go over that. I live in the Northeast and target striped bass and bluefish. I throw mostly bucktails, Slug-go's, and a variety of your classic striper plugs. I fish sandy beaches, rocky areas, and jetties. Ideally I would like the rod rated for 3/4 - 4oz.

Some rods I'm looking at are the Tsunami Airwave Elite 10'6" (1-3.5 oz) and the St. Croix Triumph 10' (3/4-4 oz).

Does anyone have experience with either of these rods and does anyone have any suggestions for a rod I should be considering? Thanks in advance.

those are great choices. Lamiglass has some new surf rods that won’t break the bank in the 10-11 ft length.they are worth a look. If you throw a lot of plugs you won’t want to go over that 4-5 oz weight . You can also use Sputnik style sinkers for extra holding power with lighter weight sinkers whenever bait fishing.

That Lamiglass Insane Surf rod looks good for around $140. But I really like Tsunami rods as well and You can’t go wrong with St. Criox rods thought a bit pricey. ODM have great surf rods but again they’re pricey.

I have the St Croix Mojo 10’6” length..3/4-4 with a penn slammer 6500. Good combination….it’s sweet spot is between 2-3 ozs. The mojo surf line I believe is being replaced with the Seage Rods…it’s outside your price range but ya can’t go wrong with st croix..I’ve got 4 St Croix surf rods…2 mojo’s and 2 Avids and just ordered a seage in the 10’6” 1/2oz -2 for the light stuff…also have several fresh water st croix’s..
