North GA Trout

Hey all,
I’m planning a fly fishing trip thanksgiving weekend to the north GA area on search of trout. Does anyone have advise on where to start? Any good resources I can use to find a good stream? I don’t know the public/private water situation up there, my plan was to try and fish the “hooch” as well as the Toccoa, and maybe the feeders that dump into those. Any help is appreciated!

Good mornin', JP, welcome to the Forum. I would stop at a local fly shop and see what they had to say. Or, maybe try to find a local fishing forum on the net. Tight Lines!

Hello JP,

We use to fish north of Dahlonega GA. Take HWY19N
We would look for campsites up in the mountains(hills). Steams run alongside the dirt roads and campsites.

Jump off on a two lane road and look for Dirt roads that lead to camp sites. Dirt roads that seem to go nowhere, stay on them.

You didn't mention if you would be Fly Fishing or using Ultra Light gear.
Back in the 70's we used Berkley Cherry-wood Fishing rods, 2 or 4lb test mono and panther martins, rooster tails, small spoons. (Corn where permitted, but be careful of artificial lures ONLY sections)

Here is a link that might help you zero in on locations. Zoom in on the map.

Good Luck and Tight lines.
