Well I broke down and made the biggest investment for ma-boat and purchased a 2022 Tohatsu 9.9hp yesterday and will be picking it up later today. This doesn’t mean I won’t be keeping old faithful, the ‘54 Johnson because I certainly am but this will be better as I start converting to a bass boat early next year. Plus being a cleaner burning motor I won’t have problems with fishing in other reservoirs which can be very strict based on my research. Will take it out this weekend to begin the 10 hour break in and while I am at it I will be fishing of course.

A buddy of mine put their 30hp motor on his pontoon boat and it is a nice motor. Good luck with yours!

Welcome to the stage feelin froggy. Good looking motor yeah I would say eventually all lakes will be going to all 4 cycle engines and electric motors.

Thanks. I was going to get a Mercury but after I found out that I only get a 1 year manufacturer warranty and have to purchase the additional 2 to make it 3 I was a bit disappointed. I understood 3 (and asked to verify a couple times) purchasing 2 to make it 5 but would have been fine if it was at least three. I backed out of that because the Tohatsu has a standard 5 year plus that dealer also does all the prep work, making sure it runs and will go over everything. I would have had to assemble things which I am capable of but for the money and customer service along with piece of mind I felt it was a no-brainer. The other thing is I know that I am not settling as Tohatsu manufactures all Mercury motors 30hp and below so all in all I think I will have a better motor. Time will tell.

No doubt they will. My old motor doesn’t leak anywhere near what it did but still a little is too much if it is a drinking water reservoir. 67 years ago, environmental concerns were nowhere near what they are now.

That is beautiful! I’m thinking about re-powering next year and I have been toying with the idea of Tohatsu vs Mercury….

Nothing against Mercury really, but I think they need to stand behind their product a bit better with more than a 1 year warranty. These motors are not cheap so a little piece of mind goes a long ways.

There are a ton around here that are that way. I kinda like it my 14’ with a bow and stern trolling motors. Moves pretty good and is the biggest vessel on the water.

Froggy first that is a nice upgrade from your older motor. I loved it when I upgraded to a 4 stroke. No more oil in the gas. But if I'm not mistaken the 1 year warranty on the Mercury is for ones used commercially. Pleasure use is 3 years. I was an Evinrude man when they still made them. Never liked a Mercury. I think you made the right choice.

That is what I thought and maybe that is true but after my experience yesterday with West Marine I said the heck with it. If the people who are selling you a product can’t give accurate information then the sale be damned.
