In the event that you cant get hold of smaller fish for predator deadbait, what is your easily-found-in-local grocery-store replacement?

Beef melt would be my go to.
Fresh squid, Butterfish any number of others in a fish store. Sometimes bait is cheaper than the bait shops.
Not from a grocery store, but local fish market. In the spring I would buy smelt and fish them on jigs for Detroit River walleye. My PB was caught using fresh cleaned smelt. Very oily and the walleyes loved them!
Squid, Mackerel, Smelt, Shrimp, Mussels, Sardines, Anchovies,,
Depends are fresh or salt water, and what kind of fish you are after. Here in downtown Louisiana, we use chicken hearts, cheap, and don't have to cut them up. Shrimp is next, but cost more, and doesn't stay on the hook, like the hearts.
Squid used to be cheap in the grocery store. Now they call it Calamari and the price went up a lot!
Chicken gizzards if you can find them. Really stays on the hook well.
My grand dad used to spit chew on his bait and said that was his secret weapon ..
