Yesterday I was fishing my local lake. Been doing pretty good on the dam for smallies. Left town knowing it may be too windy to fish the dam. Put the boat in and did not think the wind was all that bad. Made the 2 mile run to the dam. Wrong! Two foot swells. There was a small cove by the dam so I pulled in there to get out of the ruff water. Fished it for about a half hour. Nothing. Not even a peck on my tube jig. Came out of the cove to head out and the wind had subsided a little. Still pretty ruff but I was there so may as well try. I bounced my way down the dam. Nothing again. Changed tub jig color. Now I have put an hour into fishing the dam. Started thinking of all the things that needed done at home. Said to the dog "One more cast" and thought to myself "Last cast to get the skunk off or we are going home". Worked that jig out from the bank and BOOM! Felt that hit set the hook 15" smallie. Four casts latter had two more. Can't go home now. The wind had let up some more. So I kept fishing. Ended up catching 6 or 7 more. On my way home I was thinking it turned out to be a pretty good outing. And it would not have happened if I had not made that "One more cast".

Great story and pictures Mike. That 1more (?) cast has saved me from the Skunk on many occasions.

MB... it's never been just one more for me, but I see from others I'm not alone. I try to never fish when I'm backed up to a deadline/ appointment or such, just for that reason, but sometimes ya just gotta fish !

Yep. Weird how that happens sometimes. I fish some big reservoirs here in Texas. Can launch from a ramp , fish different coves, flats and zero, then go back to launch ramp area and catch a bunch. My son was with me one time , and did the “ one more cast” thing and caught a 5#. He started saying “ never give up! “ and tried a little break dance thing on the deck, tripped, and one leg went in the water. I just stood there on the other deck and shook my head...Young people are crazy...My 2cents.

Yes, one more cast netted me my personal best speckled trout.. I was drifting in the Intercoastal Canal at Port Mansfield, knew I was last time to leave, but had to make just one more cast.

Caught this trout, which jumped several times and when I finally landed it, it was the largest around 7 lbs. or so that I have ever caught. Just Sayin...RJS

Looks like you had an awesome day!! Great catching! And you know they say that a mans one last cast is equivalent to a woman’s I’ll be ready in 10 minutes

When running the charter boat, I soaked a lot of bait. When things were slow and I got impatient, or clients started getting fidgety , I would always say, five more minutes on the clock. If no solid bites we move. It is amazing how many times that five minutes turned into a boat full of limits. Sometimes the fish just move in, sometimes I think people start working their baits actively knowing they will be pulling up in five minutes. Sometimes I think everyone reeling in at once puts the fish in a biting mood as everything is escaping. My conclusion is that fishing in gear (paying attention) rather than idling creates more bites which builds confidence which causes people to pay attention which... You get the point.

I caught a 20lb. chinook salmon after saying just one last cast. The guy next to me was mad at me because I cast when he thought that I was supposed to wait for him to cast first. He was down stream from me and he was drifting a lot farther than me so I was making shorter casts and he got upset. I landed the Chinook and gave him the eggs and he apologized.
