was fishing a canal near 67th Ave.
just north of Thunderbird Rd. with
his friend Ryan Leren when he
hooked into a 42-lb. flathead
catfish ! After an epic battle lasting over a half-hour on light line (10-lb. test) where the fish pulled him about
a 1/4-mile up the canal, they finally managed to land the beast !
Second photo - Steve Cooper, while fishing the Colorado River near
Parker, Az., hooked into, reeled
in and landed a flathead catfish that weighed in at just shy of 46 lbs. !
Third photo - Rocky Baker of Four Oaks, N.C., with the help of his friend
Justin Clifton, set a new N.C. record when he landed a HUGE blue catfish

Those things would eat a domesticated cat
Ralph and Al have been close
fishing buddies for years - one
week-end, they make plans to
go out for pike/musky the
following Saturday, but Ralph
calls Al on Friday night to tell
him that his wife wants to
come along for the day and he'll probably be late, so they both
agree to meet on the water as
early as possible at their favorite
spot !
Next morning, Ralph shows up
around 9:00 AM and calls Al on
his walkie-talkie to let him know
he's (finally) arrived - they agree
to fish their way up each side of
a long point and meet up at the
tip !
Ralph hooks into a nice pike while working his way to their meeting
point - her little dog gets all excited, slips and falls overboard, and is promptly swallowed by a huge
muskie ! Ralph is somewhat
unnerved and calls Al to tell him
what just happened - there's a
brief moment of silence, then
Al asks Ralph - "Hey, buddy !
What color was the dog ?"

True ! They WERE fair-sized !
If any folk out there want to
chase REALLY BIG 'cats', consider
the European 'Wels' catfish which grows to 8 ft./250 to 300 lbs., or
the Mekong Giant Catfish, which supposedly tops out over 9 ft./
750 lbs. - the current world record
is about 646 lbs. !
