Why don’t baitcasting reels have line-keepers?

I’ve been practicing using baitcasting reels after 15 years of exclusively using spinning tackle, and I’m starting to enjoy using them, but one thing is puzzling to me: Why don’t they have those little “line keeper” notches anywhere on the frame, like the ones you see on spinning reel spools? In lieu of one, what do you do with your line when storing your reel or combo?

lycanthrope5622: I know what you mean. What I do is tie a loop and then hook that loop over the handle! Just Sayin...RJS

Most modern rods have a "hook keeper "just ahead of the reel seat. I hook mine to that.

Lycanthrope5622: also if you are willing, you can install your own hook keep yourself, no different than a line guide and after this, you are a good way toward wrapping an entire rod. Just Sayin...RJS

I use these little clips I got from Cabelas. Remove the lure, tie an overhand knot at the end of the line, thread the line up to the knot in that little notch and reel the line to the rod tip if you want to keep it threaded through the guides or all the way up to the level wind as shown, for reel storage. They're like $5 for a 6-pack.

If it doesn't have a keeper just tie line to one of the eyelets. If just the reel all kinds of free stuff. Loop on handle as mentioned. Old rings rubber bands paper clips a split ring options endless

I've been using baitcasters over 50 years & right off the bat I discovered line keepers. The're called rubberbands.

Some of the new baitcasters have a “ line keeper “ built in... check out lews reels........for older reels like most of mine, if I’m gonna take it off the rod, I tie a coke can pull tab on the end of my line, reel it up to the level wind and I’m good to go. But most of the time I leave my reel on the rod and just attach the line to the hook keeper on the rod. Most all decent rods out there have a hook keeper..
