Braid recommendation for bass

I have been running 8lb mono on my Sienna 3000, and was thinking about tossing on some braid. Never used anything except mono, so not sure where to start. Any recommendations on size and brand? Do I spool it just like I would mono? Can I use the 8lb mono as a leader?

I use 150# braid, you just never know, and as a boyscout, I was taught to always be prepared. LOL I use braid, and just joking about the weight. I do not use a leader on my thin line. Straight braid of 10# no twist, and will last longer than mono, and thinner, so you can put more on the reel. I use Power Pro!!

I’ve got several baitcasters with power pro 30# spooled on them. It’s as thin as 8# mono and I have tied on 6,8 and 17# mono and flurocarbon leaders on and if your fishing a frog just take the leader off and tie straight to the lure. YouTube is your friend on spooling braid to your reel.

Well, be advised that a braided line is approx 1/3 the diameter as the same strength of a Monofilament line. So, you triple the strength of a braided line to equal the diameter of a monoline. A lot of fishermen seem to ignore the diameter of their lines, but I find it difficult to impossible to use line, regardless of its composure if it is too small of diameter. For that reason when I switched to braid, I went with 45 lbs strength to give me the correct diameter.

Of course this is up to you and your personal choice. I am just pointing out the differences! Just Sayin...RJS

20 pound power pro or Seaguar Smackdown will serve you well on the sienna 3000. May get by with 30 if you target bigger species.
Heaviest leader I use on my 20 # is 12
And only when fishing sharp stuff ( riprap and zebra mussels )
8 pound flouro performs very well with 20 braid.

Side note. Don’t try to save a couple dollars and get cheap braid. It’s just not worth the headaches

Can’t speak for spinning reels because I don’t need any. For my baitcasters I use #30 power pro for topwater, #50 power pro for frogs and flipping situations. No leader needed......My 2cents...

I been using power pro braid for years and I love it, for bass I usually run a 10 lb floro leader and for trout I use a 8 lb floro leader
