Overcast and 58°when we hit the ramp this morning, water temperature 66°-67°, wind 8-10 out of the east. Club tournament today but not too crowded. Started in my usual cove, but leaves and alge on the surface limited lure choices. When in doubt, throw a worm. Caught 3 Largemouth but the biggest was only 1.5lb. Headed south, working the eastern shoreline,to escape the breeze. NADA. Pulled into Pond Brook and worked the 6 docks at the mouth. After a couple small Gills, hooked a nice 2 pounder. When I got him in the boat, I discovered a Dropshot hook through his nose, with an inch of cut mono hanging off it. After pulling my EWG hook from his jaw, I smashed the barb down on the other hook and cleanly removed it. I don't understand why the owner didn't do that, or cut the hook itself??? Went looking for Smallmouth in the Shepaug arm, but only found one little guy. Marked fish deep, but neither a Dropshot, or a Ned Craw drew any interest. When the darker clouds started blowing in, I called it. 5 in the boat, but only 2 decent ones. Green Pumpkin and June Bug Dingers, weightless on an EWG Trokar , and Green Pumpkin Party, and June Bug Generals, rigged Wacky, were the only things they wanted today.
Started with a couple little guys
First decent one,1.5lbs
Big fish of the day,2.1lbs
Only Smallmouth, .75lb
Colors starting to change in the cove
The Sun tried to peek thru, without much success.

They are crafty little rascals aren’t they Fred. You still did pretty well with adverse conditions. I’ve been out many times with little to no success in the catching.

Thanks Brad, a little less gusty breeze would have been nice. You can't be too picky at this time of year though, or you'll run out of time. It kills me when Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday are the nicest days of the week.
Fred, nice job out there.
Looks like you had fun and caught some fish as usual

Glad to see the "positive" account of your outing today! Your skills and regional experience paid off once again! I know what you mean about getting out every chance you get! It's time to be brave and not let the foul weather become a deterrent! Great photos and story line to bring us all along with you!
