Think your right. California lizard fish. Can’t see the tail but if it is forked then that is probably what it is.

The head and teeth look identical to our lizard fish. These fellas will attack a lure that is bigger than them.

How about surf fishing. Cut up in nice bite size pieces to catch something worth eating? Caught at Sebastian Inlet. Had two others got off.

Big fish at your feet if on north jetty just might eat the whole thing! Try full moon bite with a giant jig the locals use!
