Today I was at my dentist for a filling....which made me skeptical considering I'm 73yrs old. Are teeth that old worth filling? Anyway it was absolute torture with all the water they pumped into my throat, thought I was gonna drown, my entire face was numb for hrs after.....once that went away I felt like she did me right. She's a young Hispanic and during the procedure I'm thinking....is she a man hater...is she getting revenge on an old greengo? Feel good now but I've always regretted never learning to speak spanish

Years ago, I went to a dentist who used WAY too much novocaine. Like Bill Cosby said, "Novocaine doesn't kill pain, it postpones it." The result of having a patient totally numbed like that was that he could drill harder and faster, and finish up a lot faster. With the novocaine, you can't feel it at the time, but drilling hard and fast like that crates a lot of heat and I believe it causes thermal damage to the tooth. Every time he worked on me, I'd be in agony when the feeling came back.

These days, I have a different dentist and I always tell him to use about half the novocaine that he normally would. When I leave his office, I'm pain free and I stay that way.

This might not be for everyone, I'm more comfortable in the dentist's chair than most people. I've actually fallen asleep a few times while I was getting a crown, and once during a root canal!

I agree with Pixie. I do not like dentists. I always get very nervous any time I have an appointment. Guess Iā€™m just a big baby when it comes to that

Here is a funny story about a trip I took to the dentist quite a few years ago. I had this new Chinese dentist, and needed some work done. He asked me if I had ever used gas to cut the pain down. I responded No, but would give it a try. After a few minutes, feeling no pain these words came out of my mouth "Havn't felt like this since Viet Nam".
He backed off extremely fast, never understood why.

I am 82 and I have been letting my teeth go. I had a tooth pulled about 2 years ago and the charge was $386.00. That is when I decided to heck with my teeth, unless pain dictates otherwise. I can't see spending a lot of money in that fashion and then pass away. My wife will enjoy having that money, so I will just keep it.
