Hi everyone…
I’m new here and I love to fish but I’m not big on crowds so I was just wondering if anyone knew if any secret low profile fishing spots in or near San Antonio Tx??

Welcome to the Stage Katty. I can't answer your question but I have been looking at some places around New Braunfels. I'm targeting the "Texas Bass" and Trout.

Katty, Welcome to the Stage. Good to have ya. To your question, you can get almost any information here from our members, but doubt if you'll get any secret fishing sites. After all, they wouldn't be secret any longer then anyhow. If you get a private mail on here it might be just contain what you desire. Don't hold your breath. I had my favorite honey hole pretty much all to myself for about 7-8 years, except for some kids that wanted to fish mostly for panfish. Caught my personal best L M bass (from my home state of Connecticut) of 7lb 6oz. That's huge for here.Have been bass fishing here for over 60 years and only exceeded 4 lb. three other times. Anyhow, a local kid witnessed event and told the guy running a nearby bait n tackle shop. Pond is only about 15 or so acres. Bait guy wanted to sell bait, can't fault him for that, and he did well serving his customers with info and bait, to fish that pond. His bonanza was short lived, and the pond has never recovered from the increased fishing pressure. It's simply too small. If I ever find another gem like that, I'd never allow anyone to see me lift a catch out of the water.
Even still, I'm happy to have had this place to go, for several years. This is the kind of situation that is perfectly suited for catch and release, but that's just my view.
I hope you enjoy the experience here, nice helpful people and they are full of great tips.

Not secret but lake Calaveras is huge and full of many different species of fish, including Redfish with liberal limits. They don't spawn in freshwater so they get pretty big

If you are familiar with New Braunfels , River Road is the place to go. Nice drive, it follows the Guadalupe river all the way to Canyon Lake. A park called Lazy L&L is awesome . Bass , catfish , perch, crappie & rainbow trout. The river is deep & slow & at the end of the property the river bends & turns to rapids. Beautiful. Give it a try. Worth your time just to see.
Calaveras Lake, you don't need a boat to catch large fish. Catfish bite all year redfish start in March and go to September. You can still catch redfish all year round, but a lot slower in winter. People catch 20" to 25" redfish even without a boat and the catfish are huge in that lake.

Looks that way, but we did the right thing trying to help. I suggest we continue to do so, just a few keystrokes, for a potential new participating member. No skin lost off of our butts.
