Bought some Spiderwire 20lb braid and put it on a 6ft medium heavy rod with, I believe a 1/4 oz jerkbait...couldn't cast very far with it and I'm thinking the jerk bait was too light...any suggestions. On a side note I caught a nice bass with it today just couldn't cast very far...maybe 20 to 25 yards max

Spyderwire was the first braid tried. Everything else seems to cast better.
Using Power Pro now. Casts much better especially on baitcasters.

A few unknowns, did you replace mono with the braid or a different braid? When you were putting on the new line did you tighten/change the centrifugal or magnetic brakes? Or do you even have those, you don’t mention type of reel. And is the casting distance difference with the same lure? My experience has been increased distance with braid but have heard of going with too thin a line so that it binds into itself on the spool decreasing distance, more a baitcast issue…interested what you find out. Have used spyderwire and power pro and been sticking with power pro lately, been long enough can’t remember why may just be local availability

I used the braid on a spinning reel size 3000

It’s a toss up between spider wire and fire line which is my least favorite braid.
Lots of folk use power pro and suffix 832 . No the good lines
I prefer Seaguar Smackdown. In 20 pound
Also with jerkbaits I prefer using a stiffer flouro leader like PLine or Seaguar orange label trout and steelhead.
Seems to handle 3 treble hook lures better.

Spell check got me again.
I meant to say power pro and suffix 832 are BOTH good lines.

I tried that line once and couldn't get it off my reel fast enough

Ok, Glad I checked in about this. I'm going to check out the power pro, suffix and smackdown brands.

DB I had some spider wire n iron silk laying around. Put it on n old reel it still sucks. Took it off n put power pro on. I've used it since late 80's. I've never tried 832 but I do like suffix line also. Only time I had spider wire work well was when I put it on a zebco 33 to find out if it would work. I was surprised that it actually worked very well on a spin cast. Not worth crap on spinning n BC's

If you want to grove your guides, use Spyderwire, I wouldn't put that shi1 on my rod if they gave it to me.

Never had any good luck with spider wire. Binds up on the spinning reel and the coating of it wears off on the guides. Check into some other brands

DB - if you're not quite ready to give up on Spiderwire just yet, try spraying line conditioner (e.g. KVD or Reel Magic) on the spool. That'll buy you about 10 more casting yards. I tried a spool of Spiderwire years ago when I first got into baitcasters but as I recall, it sounded really rough, so went back to the mono I originally had on the reel. Switched to and have been regularly using Sufix 832 mainline since then with Sunline FC Sniper fluoro leader.

Darn Fly I was going to send you mine 😂. I may have thrown the rest away. Have a nice day brother 👍👍. One other thing I don't like vicious floro either. That stuff is stiff. Be good for catfishing with a hvy weight.
