Canyon Lake Texas

Went to the lake today. Just inside the mouth of the river. Biggest bass ever all over, they were coming up to the surface and then rolling on side and going back down. All around the boat everywhere and not one bite. Tried every lure in the tackle box. Deep shallow tried the fancy spray nothing. What am I doing wrong?

Well, I'd say you were usin everything BUT what they wanted/feedin on.

Sounds like they were schooling probably on some shad, came across that at lake bastrop, silver/chrome rattletrap-silver thinfin shad or even silver spoon……maybe. Good luck

If they were Bass schooling on bait, throw an unweighted Fluke right in the middle of the school. Good luck Tam!

I'm not sure what kind of fish they were but pretty sure they were bass. I am gonna try the jerk bait and the chrome rattle trap. What about live bait? I really never caught nothing off of live bait except at the coast. Thanks for all the replies. I am gonna get some jerk bait today.

Berkley Hit Stick, Megabits Vision 110 and KVD have all been very productive for me.

I agree with SUAF - think they area eating Threadfin Shad, which are small. Not gizzards which are large. I have had to down size my lures to catch schooling fish on Canyon. Try the smallest twitch bait or rattle traps as suggested. The bigger fish are usually down lower so jigging spoons can also be effective when there is surface action. I have been told using nylon lures to catch Gar is a blast. There teeth get caught in strands and u can bring them in. They are good eating from what I have been told. Just have to clean them correctly.

I didn't know we had a crew on here from this area. Nice to see. Boat is in shop getting tuned up, but I'll start posting results and pics once I am back on the water.

Sounds strange for bass ( largemouth) . usually when bass come to the surface in numbers they are schooling, chasing shad, and will bite a lure. And usually the whole spectacle is a fast moving , violent affair. Weird........My 2cents.
