I have 17 more working days until retirement.
One of the MANY things that I'm looking forward to is sleeping when I want to sleep and getting up when I want to get up. I frequently wake up at 3:00AM and have trouble going back to sleep. My "wake up time"is 5:30. So, 3:00AM is too early to get up. Well, in retirement I'll just get up and watch TV or do some chores or something and then go back to bed later for a nap.
It's the "little things" like this that put the icing on the cake....

A pleasant thought for sure, Papa, but chances are you will find a retirement job after a while, they are plenty of them out there.

Congrats Papa, though I always set my alarm for 5 I’d always wake up before it rang. Retired 2 years, no longer set it and still wake up even earlier. The most important thing for me is the freedom of doing things I want to do and always having time for things I need to do…. all on my own time. It’s a beautiful thing.
Congrats papa. I’ve been retired now for a year and a half and still find myself waking up around 6 every morning. Guess I just got used to getting up and can’t break the habit. It is nice not having a set schedule but I am sure you will find plenty to do. I often wander how I had time to work
A year & a half retired & I went the opposite. I have become a night owl. Luckily my wife always was. I go to bed between 1-2am & get up at 10-11. No more 5am alarms.
Pappa: You will learn to adjust. You may still wake up early, but probably learn how to either get up, or just go back to sleep. I personally enjoy those early morning hours because there's no interruption and I can write. Also sleep can be as easy in the AM even until noon, or so. Just Sayin...RJS

Hey PapaJ I thought that also wasn't so easy going back to sleep after all those years on a schedule but morning fishing ain't to bad either Good luck with your plan the best part is you can do something different every day🐟🎣😀👍
Yep! If I wake up too early I just read and frequently fall back asleep. Nice thing about retirement is sleeping-in, which is 7:00 am or so. Then I ease into the day with a cuppa joe and a piece of toast.
Routine does vary if early morning fishing is scheduled!
Well, if you wake up early and have nothing else to do, keep a pad and pen at your bedside and write down your random memories as a youngster, anything so that you can flesh them out later for your children, grand children. They may not express any immediate interest but will some day treasure their connection with you and what you experienced during your life span. Just Sayin...RJS

Hope you stay busy in those soon to be 16 days. I gave 18 months notice hoping they would give me an early out.
Nope, it was a long 18 months especially with very little to do since the company was going mostly software and i was a hardware tech.
17 days will go by quickly. I retired last year and I had been getting up at 5:00 for many years. I too looked forward to sleeping later. It took awhile but now I sleep to 6:30/7:00 on most days. To some it may not sound like much but to me it is really “sleeping in”. I hope you enjoy your retirement as much as I am enjoying mine

Yeah--I got up at 5:30 for work for years, rarely needed the alarm. After I retired it gradually (and naturally) moved towards 6:00 and finally settled around 7:00am.

Just started getting up a little later I just wish I could go to sleep later it's been a long time since I did a night fishing trip believe me I've tried
Congratulations PapaJ! It took about six months for me to stop waking up at 4:30am after I retired. Enjoy the extra hours you will now have to do the things that are important and fun in your retirement!
