Do you clean the guts out of pan fish before you fillet the fish? Is it the same for catfish?
One of these days I'm going fishing. If that means I have to crawl to get there. My son is to busy for me now.

No need to gut any fish for filleting.

Right, I just fillet, skin and bone what I catch. Wash and cook or freeze. Everything else discarded
I watched old guys nailing catfish to trees to clean when I was young. Being one that's not afraid of work but also belives in not making it any harder. I learned to fillet them n leave the rest for the turtles. ππ

Get out there Big TC before the cold weather sets in.
I can relate on your son issue. It used to be i didn't live in the area, now, there is a house waiting to be sold.
Some day they will look back as we do and say WHY.
No need to gut unless your going to grill them whole.

Strange how they forget their growing up years with the trips, the pool install, pool parties, first cars, every Christmas since they have forgotten, tears by the fireside chat, weekday going fishing, Ocean City, and how we waited up night after night on that 11 pm curfew. Oh how they forget!!!!!
I've long since retired, my son's moved away
I called him up just the other day
I said, "I'd like to see you if you don't mind"
He said, "I'd love to, dad, if I could find the time"
"You see, my new job's a hassle and the kid's got the flu"
"But it's sure nice talking to you, dad
It's been sure nice talking to you"
And as I hung up the phone, it occurred to me
He'd grown up just like me
My boy was just like me

That song is so good but again so sad, taught me what I didnβt want to be.

Yep, i wished my step sons dad would have stepped up to the plate. They hurt but they're to hard headed to say anything to him. They have that what good would it do attitude.

Man that hits home Plum. I have a step daughter and step son, we have a total of five. My wife and I put her through college. When she went to college he gave her $20. After she got her drivers license she got busy with social life and dad stopped coming to pick up his son every other weekend. He figured if she can drive they should both come to him. Way to tell your son you don't give a s*#@. Once on dad's birthday they went out to dinner with him and my stepdaughter had to pay. She got married in Florida and I had to get him from the airport cause he didn't want to rent a car. Good for him I had to pick up a groomsman at the same time. When she had his first grandchild he did visit once. He hasn't seen his second grandchild and he's 15 months old. I don't think she even calls him anymore, my stepson certainly doesn't. How can a parent be like that?

I would love to answer that but it would all be from what i've heard through the kids and my wife. I would like to side with them but as we all know 2 sides to every story like that. I've met him at one grand kids birthday and based on first impression i wasn't shocked from what they say.
However your step children to have quite the tool from what you say. That $ 20 says it all.
The song is so true. When grandson got old enough to drive his dad said he couldn't afford to help him with a vehicle. Bug n I raised Brody. I took him to all sporting events. His dad would sit on the bleachers n say that's my son. Many times I wanted to stand up in front of all those people n said. Then why don't you help support n raise him. Dad wasn't broke by any means. Him n his wife eat at his parents every night. I never said a word though. We did it for Brody. I have the memories his dad should of had. Brody wouldn't have those memories if his dad had him. Brody still calls our house his home. I don't want a medal I have those golden memories. ππ To all the grandparents n step-parents that stepped up when kids needed someone. Blood or not. Newer country song He's my Boy covers step parent. ππTo the parents that do stand by their children.
