Jon boat conversion or sit on top kayak

So I'm a big guy, 6 foot 300 lb. I currently have a 12 foot sit in kayak that I like but I do not like being enclosed and I cant stand up. I'm wanting to keep it under $1200 and didnt know if it would be better to get myself a 12-16 foot jon boat and slap a board on front to cast from or would I be better off just getting myself a sit on top yak. I normally fish alone so the extra seating room doesn't really bother me. I do a lot of bass fishing and like to have 6 to 8 rods with me. I would also want to be able to hook a trolling motor to either. Has anyone had any experience with both? Any and all suggestions would be helpful

I would recommend a jonboat and a trailer to provide storage space and stability for a big guy.

Have you considered an inflatable? Check out Sea Eagle and see if there's something you like. I have two and the quality and customer service are there. Less weight, less space and no trailer.

I had back surgery in ‘08, so Kayaks don’t work for me either. I would go with the widest Jon boat you can find and slap a sheet of plywood and some carpet down and have some fun. Plus you’ll have plenty of room for all your rods and a companion now and then, even if that’s a 6-pack

Agree on the WIDE Jon boat. I picked up a used one a few years back. Made a carpet covered removable floor with seat mount. Comfortable for freshwater bass fishing but I get nervous standing. Wish it was wider.
