Buddy and I fished Shohola today for panfish attempting to supply a fish fry for his family reunion. Gorgeous but quite windy day. Lost my bow anchor in what I believe was a stump field, once that was gone we simply twirreled like a top.Lake level was up at least 3 feet from our last visit and couldn’t find the big gills in their usual haunts. Caught maybe 27 to 30 gills but nothing over 8 inches or so and they were all released. Icing on the cake however was 3 mature bald eagles cruising quite close and an osprey that whacked a sunny that was flopping on the surface due to a swallowed hook. At least we fed an osprey.

Some times the fish win. Wish you luck tomorrow. If not go to the seafood market.

Well Brad, you had some action, and saw a great aerial show , so the day wasn't a total washout. Sorry to hear about the anchor though. Glad you got your boat out anyway, but where's the pictures? You'll get 'em next time.
Momma always said ther would be days like that.
She just didn’t say ther would be so many

FF, I’ll send you some boat rehab pictures of my Massive 14.25 Grumman if you desire.
That' s a bugger about the anchor, along with the fish bite being off too. As mentioned, the other scenery helps make up for it though. Kind of scary when you lodge an anchor into a non recoverable snag so I'm glad that you were able to release it without any issues. I suspect that you have a way point, and perhaps if the water is not too deep maybe a skin diving rescue/salvage could be in order?
Hopefully the family fish fry can still go on with a source of supplemental fish from somewhere else?
I was out in West Bay near town (Traverse City, MI) here late this afternoon in the kayak trolling for bass and walleye but the wind was so stiff it was hard to go forward without doing the same magnitude sideways! Caught nothing at all until it finally started to calm down and then the smallies turned on. Caught and released a few but took no pictures because I was still doing my best to stay upright in the breeze! Dog gone wind!
Best wishes on your next outing!

Thanks FY, I’ve actually got enough panfish vacuum sealed for him to supply his reunion so all is good. Just wanted to get some freshies.

You’re right Grizz, my friend had never seen eagles that close with the exception of nature shows. That absolutely made his day along with the osprey. He was blown away when it tucked it’s wings and went down like a rocket.
There's a pair of osprey nesting on a water tower near where I surf fish. You can always tell when they have an active nest. They're out over the water dawn to dusk looking to feed the little ones. They are a real pleasure to watch.

Part of the lyrics from another good old tune... Momma said they'll be days like this , they'll be days like this my Mamma says............
I have a pair of osprey that fish my pond every year and it usually takes them three to four tries to get a fish. So fun to watch from 40 feet up and then dive into the water and if the fish is too big sometimes they will flop to shore and kill it and eat a bunch to take back to nest and then return in 15-20 minutes and carry the rest off.

Yeah FishingFool, I love that “sploosh” sound when they hit the water.
