Good luck Tom, and take some pictures of the area while you're out there.

Good luck to ya! Define a "short"? Is there a size limit in NH? Not in California that I'm aware of. Up at Buck's Lake here several years ago and we were catching loads of 15 - 18 inchers. Good eating! We call em Macks here.

Sorry to hear that! Some days are so "golden" that it's almost like magic...catching is so easy! Other days...not so easy and the magic is gone! I know the feeling!

At this time of year our local lake trout (Traverse City, MI) are starting to think about spawning so they move away from their usual Summer haunts and begin to congregate in areas near flowing streams. Although many stay out in the big lake to spawn, many actually enter the rivers. So...in our case it means changing to lake waters that we often never bother fishing during the prime warm months. I don't like to bother them once they go upstream. They still gobble up the same old tackle around here...just from a different address.

Our inland trout season closes in 2 weeks...so I will be very busy trying to make the most of what remains...although there are a few exceptions.

Hopefully you'll be able to locate the bigger ones and enjoy the waning days of the season! Good luck when you go next time!

On really slow days a piece of bacon rubbed on your lure can mean feast or famine. Why a trout would even think of eating something so foreign is beyond me but it works !

You guys get those big brookies in NH? I keep looking for them here, but all I've seen so far are the 10 inchers. I'm serious. A 15 inch brook trout here is a monster. But they're sure fun to catch. Oh. And they're delicious.

Big like this one? That's not me by the way. Nor is that in California.
