Another “Old School” technique

My BIL has been nailing the bass (both L and SM) by row-trolling jointed Rapalas and Jitterbugs at first and last light, during flat water conditions, just outside the weed lines. He has also caught a bunch of Northern Pike this way. I used this technique back before I bought my first trolling motor, so it has been almost 40 years. He also uses 2 rods at times with the Rapala back about 40’ and the Jitterbug about 60’ or so. He uses an old 12’ rowboat, but I don’t know why this wouldn’t work nowadays in a pedal driven (or standard) kayak with a rod holder or a canoe with a buddy. Sharpen your hooks and give it a try!

I should add a disclaimer to this…every once in a while you should probably check behind you so you don’t crash into anything (another boat, tree, alligator, go over a dam, etc.) or purchase a bike helmet with a rear view mirror on it 😉😂

I caught my first slime dog doing that, I was about 5 y/o and my uncle was rowing because we didn't have an outboard motor.

OJ the last time I was on the Potomac river I saw just that. A fellow in a longer yak with a trolling motor was trolling for either tiger muskie or walleye. Rod holder on ea side. Don't kno if he had any luck or not. Sure looked peaceful 👍👍

Pretty confident I don’t want to deal with a big musky in a kayak 😱

OJ I've seen guys hooking sharks n tarpon n a variety of other big fish. I read n article where a guy said he went out 2miles or more into open water. Well good for him. I may be OK in a paddle yak but not a paddle yak. Hands wrists n shoulders not that good anymore

I have done some crazy things in my day, but as soon as I may be viewed as the bait, or the odds are way in the fishes favor…I will respectfully pass, thanks! My thrill-seeking days are over!

Hi OJ. That was to be a peddle yak not paddle paddle. I like room to move. I saw a guy on tv about yak fishing open water. Him n a friend was out fishing. He looked over n his bud way laying back in the yak. He figured he was taking a nap. He went over to him n found him dead. He had his legs over the side. A shark took off part of one leg. The guy bleed to death. I'll pass

Well, rowing and trolling works. My wife and I were at the Inn of the Mountain Gods, and they have a small lake stocked with trout. We were fishing in a row boat. I rowed and my wife fished by holding the rod and reeling in the fish. They only hit when the lure was moving as we trolled.
Not only did we get sunburned, I had blisters on both hands! Just Sayin...RJS

I figured as much. Whoa, no thanks! I will stick to fresh water!
My BIL had one of the original Hobie pedal prototypes. I wish I would have bought it from him when he let it go a few years ago 🤦🏼‍♂️

It is a wonder the shark didn't pull him in. They usually thrash around till they tear something off. A clean bite not so probable with a shark.

It may have twisted Plum I don't. It was on a shark show. The two guys was within seeing distance but not hearing distance. If the story is true. I know I wouldn't let my hands or feet hang over the side
