I am interested in purchasing a kayak paddle boat that I can fish with in saltwater backwaters. Anyone have any suggestions or know anything bout the Blue Sky models?

Nowadays, product availability seems to be driving the decision that folks are making when purchasing a kayak. I am not familiar with the specific brand you mention, but first and foremost make sure that it has the design, buoyancy and features that you would desire and use. Get one large enough to feel secure in any situation you may use it in. Sit on tops are very popular for fishing, but a sit in style could also work well...that will depend on your personal preferences. Casting, trolling, jigging, still fishing, all of the above, etc.

If you are able to rent one or borrow a loaner, that could give you a sense of performance before committing to a purchase.

Regardless of what you acquire, always take time after a trip to do a thorough rinse with fresh water...especially any moving parts like rudder cables, pedals, etc. As many will attest, salt water can start to degrade equipment rather quickly when it sits in the nooks and crannies!

Definitely consider the used market if you are just getting into the sport, but supporting a local Outfitter with a new purchase is also a practice of good financial stewardship.

Good luck with your decision, and let the forum know how it all goes!

Ditto on what fishyaker says.

Being able to stand while fishing from a yak is a priority for me. Something to think about on your purchase. And by all means wear a PFD.

Good choice! Have the angler 360. It’s a catamaran platform that’s a great fishing boat. Blue Sky kayaks customer service takes the cuss out of customer service. They are outstanding people to deal with. Don’t purge the urge to splurge dawg. Go for it!
