If you're actually tryin to TROLL, a drift sock would hinder the trollin motor. Use to use a 5 gal bucket, same effect as drift sock, to SLOW my trollin speed down when needed. Haven't trolled for trout in YEARS though. Now it's stripers and we troll bout 5 mph.

I Can tell you from personal experience that a 5 gal bucket is very effective for slowing a boat. I was running down the Delaware after a Philadelphia fireworks show with a hundred or so other boats when the skeg of my outboard caught a subsurface bucket. Believe me when I tell you it slowed the boat VERY quickly.

Common here in the reservoirs.

There's one in the area that won't allow a gas motor period. They had problems with gas n oil leaking into the reservoir. I don't fish it. You launch n drive back up a steep hill. Park where nobody can see truck. Walk back down n hope your stuff is still there.

Depending on where Bert is fishing some places are electric only and the gas motor has to stay out of the water.

Hello Plumbob. There are a few lakes where Bert1949 & I live that are electric motor only. That's exactly how the wardens see that rule. There can be no gas motor attached to the boat. Years ago I was given a warning for having my 7 1/2 horse Honda on the back of the boat & the fuel tank in my truck. Couldn't have used the motor if I wanted to. It is odd to see an old Ranger or Skeeter bass boat with only a trolling motor or 3 trolling motors. 1 in the front to steer & 2 permanently mounted in the back. Redneck engineering.

Hi Bottom. Plum is closer to them than me but MD has some big electric only bodies of water. I saw one guy that had one on each corner. Saw another that was bow to stern batteries.

I have the same boat but a 2020. Had the same issues along with draining the battery fast. I splurged on myself and boat a 6 horse kicker. Helps a lot but sometimes still need to troll with wind direction

I bought a new larger boat 2 years ago with a 200 hp motor & tried to get my dealer to install a kicker motor but he felt that since I was going with a 36 volt trolling motor I didn't need the kicker. I let him talk me out of it & I sure messed up. I'll probably have a kicker installed this winter. Tight lines.
