Never fished there but my sister got married there about 10 years ago. Guys where catching all sorts of stuff right off the main pier. Saw a few rays, a couple sharks, and I believe salt water sheephead being caught.

If you drive north on the island you come to a private camp entrance. There's a parking lot there. You can walk north and fish along the beach. If you get to the ICW you can fish in the area. I know there's drum and flounder along that stretch, but I'm pretty sure flounder season just closed in NC. It's at of walking.
The pier to the south has a restaurant and bar right there also.
If you keep going south you'll come to another area where you can park and surf fish. Haven't been there in a while though.
