Greetings Anglers:
Will be staying on and fishing Lake Leelanau Sept 30 thru Oct 8.
Seek North & South lake spots & tips to catch Perch (to fry), Walleye, Northern and try Lake Trout. Any emails of map points, best lures-bait, depths etc would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I live in the area, and spend time on occasion fishing in both lakes...but I do not hit them hard as there are so many choices in this region. I typically do well on walleye in the vicinity of where Rice Creek comes in on the West side of the South Lake. Pike tend to hang out at the very South end. I have been in both lakes via a boat and kayak. Hopefully you have access to a boat...or are bringing your own. The lakes can take a while to navigate! The "narrows", where both lakes meet, is a no wake zone for about a 1/2 mile or so.

In a nutshell, as with fishing anytime, there are no sure bets. My suggestion would be to at least log on to a web site named sportsmansconnection.com and quickly order a special guide book that they produce in a spiral bound hard copy format. It is about a $25.00 investment and the book details the depth contours, public launch sites, fish hotspots, historic stocking records and some commentary from the local bait shop at the narrows. They also sell individual lakes for $2.00 each that you can download and print yourself in a hurry. Money well spent! I have been using their maps for decades for all the places I go in MI and they have always helped me catch fish in an unfamiliar lake.

Good luck when you go. By the way...gold or pearl color themed body baits are highly effective on the walleyes. Bass, perch and lake trout like all the usual stuff that is common in other bodies of water. The North lake tends to be rather clear, while the Southern Lake is a bit stained most of the time.
