Need GOOD fishing spots near Gettysburg...
I moved to Gettysburg PA 18 years ago.
I finally got my fishing license this Summer!
Used to fish a LOT in Baltimore and WV, but having a hell of a time catching anything up here.
Looking for BASS, mainly, but right now, I'd settle for anything.
What am I doing wrong?
Am I fishing out-of-season?
Where are some good spots to fish from the shoreline (no boat)?

Welcome to the Stage Gene, depending on your water temperature,Bass could be deep during the day. Early morning, or right before sunset they should come up to shallow water to feed.
We have a bunch of Pa. guys here, they'll be along.
Welcome. I'm trying to figure out PA too.
Fredfish and Flytier,
Thanks for the replies.
So far, I've had the SLIGHTEST success at the Long Pine Run Reservoir, at Micheaux State Park.
Caught two small bass, late in the day.
One was barely twice the size of the small Rapala floating lure I finally decided to use - it was about 6 inches!
The second was about 9"... but at least they were BASS!
I decided to go with the top lures, after watching them attack the surface, near a creek that was flowing into the reservoir.

There's nothing that compares with the Topwater bite, especially early in the morning when the water is flat calm. Hula poppers, Jitterbugs from the old school list, Rebel Pop Rs, Tiny Torpedoes, and popping Frogs from more recent lures.

Gene I've fished there several times. Never got a big bass. Lake Marburg at Hanover is nice. A bit hard to fish but it has some nice fish in it. Including 4 different species of muskies along with cats n panfish. Two small lakes near York. I think it's Redman n Williams. One near broadtop ski resort at Gilford Pinochet state park. Tough fishing but it contains some big bass if you can find them. Marburg is 20hp max rest no ob's
I'm going to try Gifford Pinchot in the near future.
All of these sites are within a 30 to 45 minute drive from home - so that's nice.
I'm used to going to Loch Raven, and actually catching fish!
I began to wonder...
Do you guys think that "Catch & Release" has made the larger fish "smarter"?
I just began to wonder if those fish are learning to avoid the lures, in effect, becoming "wily old fish".
Have you ever thought about this, or seen studies that you could share?
Maybe it's time to revisit my vintage lures.

Gene, I've caught lots of Bass with evidence of multiple holes in their jaws, from previous hookups. Apparently they don't remember much, unless maybe I only catch the ones with alzheimer's.

Thanks for the laugh, I needed that just now
As far as the Alzheimer's - I've been known to spend all the time it takes me to tie a lure, and then cut the working end of the line, instead of the dangly bit

I tied a lipless on one time n only one time. I was talking n didn't tie it right. Dropped it over the side n it was gone. Now make sure. It was brand new. ππ

Gene the water looks real stained but it doesn't effect a depth finder. I'm about the same distance from my place. Some of the guys from Bass Pro kayak there. Ive seen the pics. Nice but not many. Good luck ππ
