I wait 3 seconds from the blowup so they can actually get the frog in their mouth and either I see them spit it out, or the frog disappear under the water after the blowup, and after the count of three a hard hookset with my medium heavy fast action rod just results in the frog flying back at me at 80mph lol.

My experience is that almost all frog hooks are crappy. Try replacing the stock hooksw Gamakatsu frog hooks, or at least sharpen the original hooks

My only advice is to take a pair of pliers and bend the hooks up slightly it won’t be quite as weedless (it will still be very weedless) but your hookup ratio will be better
Usually it's because the excitement of seeing the explosion on top that you just react too quickly setting the hook.
I used to fish a lot of ponds as a kid and catch crickets, grasshoppers and small frogs for bass. Most of the time I would get bite as soon as the bait hit the water, then jerk really fast, resulting in a big swing and a miss. As the bait became more scarce, I learned to be more patient. I didn't wait as long as FS does but I would say "one, onethousand" and lit it rip.
A special frog hook is made that actually fits between the two existing hooks. I was frog fishing with a friend, missing bites left and right, while he was hooking up on almost every cast. Thankfully, he did not wait until the end of the day to show me the addition he had added to his frog set up. I order a set, now having a lot better success with hook ups. I ordered an extra set shortly thereafter.
Google lake fork frog tail hook. Tackle warehouse carries them; two for I believe $6.
What works for me. Power Pro braid line around 40# or so, a heavy rod with fast tip, and don't wait long at all when the fish blows up. Bending hooks up some and keeping the sharp is a necessity.
Bill Dance video says to wait till you feel dead weight and then set hook….

I am on the learning curve of frog hook ups. Bend a little up, bend a little out. Shorten up the legs. Too manny misses biting all leg. Don’t count. Hit it as fast as it hits. It’s in the mouth on the hit. Finally, change up retrieve. Just casting and letting it sit for 5 to 10 seconds works also. Finally missed some getting hit right at the side of canoe. Big bass follow the frogs for awhile. Be ready for big splash all over you.
3 seconds way too long, ..1 mississippi should do it
