Good day at O'Neill Forebay

Had a good day yesterday, got 6 stripers, all about the same size. 20". Caught 5 of them in 3-4' of water, in and around the grass on the east side. Seemed a bit odd, them being so shallow at this time of year. Started in deeper water, 10-12', but saw them hitting bait fish in the shallower water, along with the birds diving on the bait fish. So that's where I went. Caught them all on a Zoom silver sparkle fluke. 2 weeks ago had a great day there, caught 14 in the deeper water around the grass. Same bait mostly. Also used a Johnson silver spoon with a trailer. I've been using an ultra-light rig with the fluke, and it's a lot of fun!!

Fish must be 18" and I believe limit is 2. I catch and release 99% of my fish, so not sure of all the regulations.
Thanks

Nice catching MDM ! I've fished San Luis Reservoir maybe a dozen times and half of those times was run off by the winds in the afternoon! But I will say the other times we've caught our limits, my PB there was17lb Striper in Portuguese cove, also done good at the dam drifting Jumbo minnows from Coyote bait in Los Banos. I really want to fish the forebay soon , Thanks for sharing MDM

Nice fish. I hear that O'neill has lots of smaller fish, and San Luis has the bigger. And yea, the winds are a pain. I'd love to fish San Luis, but I have a "semi-pro pool toy" for a boat!! An Intex Mariner 4 inflatable. It doesn't do well in the winds, but it beats fishing from shore! LOL! Take care and ENJOY!
