Types of line affecting setting hooks?

I've been really getting back into fishing lately and have decided to learn a new skill set while I'm at it. I've always fished with a bobber and worm growing up but I'm going hard into using lures and learning the texas rig.

The new rod I bought comes pre-wound with 12Lb mono which I've noticed feels kinda soft especially when trying to twitch the bait or set a hook. I get bites it seems like they spit it out by the time my action makes it down to them. My question is would, switching to a different line help that? I read that fluorocarbon has a lot less stretch which I feel would dramatically help my control at the other end of the line.

I'm not convinced the line makes that big a difference setting the hook. Ever stick your finger with a hook? I doubt it takes much to set it in the fish's mouth. matter of fact sounds like using circle hooks on cats, the cats set the hook themselves! Don't use a circle and sounds like the cat swallows hook and all but then somehow sspits it out of way inside without hooking itself. Now I think back over the years and I pretty much always used mono line, it caught fish! Using braid on a few casting reels these days, catch fish with it. Sometimes I miss the bite and come up mty, probably to slow setting the hook!

Braid floats (no stretch)
Mono floats (stretches)
Fluoro sinks (minimal stretch)

Lines that float have a natural “bow” to them due to the buoyancy of the line. Think about that when setting the hook as you have to take up the slack line first, before it has an effect on the fish. This may be why the pros on TV look as though they are trying to kill a person who is attacking from behind?

This is why on all my reels except one I have braid spooled up with either a fluoro or mono leader.

Line that comes with combos is generally crap. Whenever we sell a combo at the shop it is highly suggested to respool with a quality line such as Trilene, Stren etc.

Hey bknecht-where's your shop? I visit Allentown a couple times a year on business; if it's anywhere near there I'll have to drop in!

It’s not my shop DC, I simply work whenever Mike (the owner) asks me. Shop is in Nazareth, pa. Called Mike’s Bait and Sport Shop. He’s got better prices than the big box stores as well much more knowledge. It’s my retirement sanity and a lot of fun.
