Should I buy a 4000 size reel?

I’m looking at the Lew’s Custom Pro Speed Spin. I primarily fish for bass, but I’m wondering if 4000 size might give me a little more flexibility to target catfish.

Or, is 4000 overkill? For bass, I like to throw chatter baits, Senkos, rooster tails, etc. I bank fish, but I don’t think I would mind the extra weight. Any other disadvantages of a 4000 over a 3000 that I should be aware of? I’m pairing it with a 7ft 1 Johnny Morris Patriot rod. Thank you!

What kind and what size catfish? Normal size cats like 10 or 12 lbs or so? OK for the 3000. Big blues and flat heads? Bigger the better.

Ya know, I've been fishing about 70 some years now and I haven't a clue what those reel size number's mean. A 4000 reel, what is that?

Next time you are in the sports section of a store, just look at a 1000,2000,3000 and 4000 real of the same make. Look at both bait casting and spinning. Poof! you are an expert.

4000 might be overkill. You should be able to get by with a 2500. 4000 is mainly used for saltwater unless you’re up for some mighty big catfish

Ya know, I really like casting reels and something I've wondered about for a long time is if the number is the size of the reel, why are my ABU 5000 and ABU 6500 the same size?

They have the same frame, but the spool size is different. The 6500 holds more line, so theoretically is a bigger reel. I can not see a purpose in the smaller spool except that the reel cost less. My personal opinion is that it is purely a marketing gimmick. Please help me out here any of you that disagree.

Wouldn't surprise me it's a marketing gimic. About like the camo catfish special reel. 6500 with a new paint job and raised the price a bunch!
