So I was in the USCG some 30 years ago, but I was an engineer not a deckie, just picked up 200’ of soft nylon 3/8” rope for $20 figure 50’ will be fine for drift boat but wanted spliced in anchor thimble to remove for trailering. Umpteen false starts and redos with videos each showing slightly different means trying to make tight around thimble now just keeping track of splice to stay even. As frustrating and fun as any puzzle and more useful. Here’s the guys vid I ended up following. Equal number of different methods of finishing so that’ll be more figuring

Nice job Shutup, I haven't spliced a line since I sold my Luhrs in 2001.

So, lived three years onboard a 378 ft. Cutter and first line splice. Small thing but hey. Dry erase marker helped.

Nice looking handiwork there! It shows that you have a fine attention to the small details!

Used to doing that with cable on a drag line when I ran equipment about 35 years ago. lol. I doubt if I could do it any more without a lot of practice

Ugg, to think a fellow anchor clanker would forget a lesson learned in boot camp!! I was there 46 years ago and I remember my marlinspike (with the help of a book or two)!🤣

Prior service boot camp at cape may had a 50 cent beer machine downstairs, pretty much learned to call it a head instead of a latrine. was in Army first. Leonard wood
Not any line splicing in engine room WHEC 715

Never braided hair but learned to get good at doing highlights after telling the 3 girls they could get them. Wife called me, salon wanted $80 each, told her pick up the stuff and I’d do it.
