HiImLionel: Lionel, all the fish eat something probably every 24 hours! The bigger the fish, the bigger their meals. The problem is you have to figure out what and when this is most likely to happen. For Catfish, they dine more often in the night, or very early A.M. and love perch or other small fish. The more hours you put in with your bait in the water, the more likely you are to catch. Usually fish for trout. If you are bank fishing you have to wait for the water to cool down enough so they are within casting distance from shore. Generally November to early May is the best time. If you have a boat you can fish the deeper waters at the far end of the lake. Downriggers are a big help. In the warmer months catfish ,bass and stripers can be caught from shore.
